FA Mediation Project

Mediation Project: Monroe Community College is a large and diverse community comprised of talented and dedicated professionals. Part of working in a large organization is realizing that conflicts will sometimes arise. How we manage that conflict can spell the difference between a harmonious workplace and an inhospitable environment. If you find yourself in need of assistance, there is an alternative to having your department head, chair, union officers, or administrators get involved. The Faculty Association offers trained mediators to its membership.

What is Mediation?

  • A private, confidential, safe way to resolve interpersonal conflict with the help of a trained mediator;
  • A way to prevent escalation of issues through facilitated dialogue;
  • A mutually respectful, collaborative process.

Mediation isn’t

  • Judgmental
  • About taking sides
  • About allocating blame
  • About imposing a solution on participants
  • Reported to anyone else

Mediation is

  • Strictly confidential
  • Private and safe
  • Voluntary
  • A process that treats all participants respectfuIly
  • An opportunity to engage in addressing interpersonal conflict with no paper trail and no involvement from superiors, union, or administration
  • A chance to craft your own mutually agreeable solution
  • Facilitated by trained, impartial MCC colleagues
